Third Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development agrees on a regional cooperation as the way forward to a sustainable future

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) convened the third session of the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD 2016) from 3 to 5 April 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand, where some 420 participants gathered to define the future of sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. The Forum agreed on a way forward for setting up a process for the development of a regional road map for implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Member states, civil society and other stakeholders also made recommendations on the way the APFSD should support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the future.

There was a call for the United Nations system and subregional and other regional organizations and stakeholders to work together to support regional action. During the three-day sessions there was wide-ranging dialogue on regional priorities for implementation, including statistics and mainstreaming SDGs, regional roadmap, form and function of APGFSD, and follow up and review, science , technology and innovation for sustainable development, sustainable and resilient cities, as well as associated events on voluntary national reviews, SDG6 and SDG10.
