The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs have set up an ambitious plan for managing these challenges in an integrated manner. The ambitions SDG 6 targets on Clean Water and Sanitation emerge as a powerful driver for robust water and sanitation infrastructure investments. The Asia-Pacific region, where 277 million people still lack access to safe drinking water sources, and only 65 per cent of the population has access to sanitation, is emerging as the power house for such infrastructure investments, which would stimulate robust economic growth, and support agricultural and industrial growth, and urbanization. The study indicates increased investments in water infrastructure, including 15 per cent growth in the water and sanitation markets, with China emerging as the biggest market in 2025; and India as the fastest growing market. Furthermore, the study provides an overview of the investments in water and sanitation infrastructure, and in water purification and waste water management sectors in particular, and in a number selected countries the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, an overview of investment projects funded by Japan and Republic of Korea in selected countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
